Volunteer With Us
Would you like to volunteer and help make our community better?
Email us at thefondecivicclub@gmail.com
The Fonde Civic Club has volunteering opportunities both in and outside our neighborhood. We partner with various nonprofits to make our community better.
At Fonde Civic Club we treasure our volunteers and understand life happens! We don't want our volunteers to be burdened by a volunteering commitment. If you are out of capacity, just reach out and let us know.
Ongoing Projects:
Newsletter Distribution: Once a month be a hero by helping us distribute our newsletter. You can distribute it to your block or multiple blocks or any of our streets. Or sign up to be a back up distributor for when one of our regular distributors cannot do it. We currently need distributors for Collier Street and the 2000 block of Jean Street.
Yard of The Month Committee: We are looking for a leader to start this committee! Once a month volunteers will pick a home with a beautiful yard. This home will be featured in our monthly newsletter.
Walking Group: Volunteer as a walking group lead by setting up a time at Fonde Park to walk. Contact Karina at 832-882-0455 for details.
Running Group: Volunteer as a running group lead by setting up a time at Fonde Park to run. Contact Karina at 832-882-0455 for details.
Minimum Lot Size Block Captain: Interested in helping collect signatures for a minimum block size ordinance? We work in pairs and keep it to two block faces at a time.
Block Captain: Interested in helping keep neighbors informed in times of emergency? Be a phone tree block captain! A block captain collects their block's phone numbers and organizes neighbors in a phone tree. The captain calls the next neighbor to initiate the tree and each tree member can report back to the captain. When a situation happens like there is a burglary or a hurricane coming, or a fire, the phone tree can be activated by any member calling the captain and/other members. Block captain training and guidelines are provided. Just email: thefondecivicclub@gmail.com and write Block Captain in the subject line.
PIP (Positive Interaction Program) citywide and local monthly meetings:
A presentation from a different police division or law enforcement agency each month. You may hear what a judge, district attorney, state prison warden, or a county boot camp director has to say about what they are doing to fight crime.
A chance to meet the officers that patrol your neighborhood and get to know them on a first name basis. You even hear from the Captain of your sub-station. (This is the person that can tell you what your station will be doing in the future.)
You can find out more and find the upcoming meeting dates and locations here: https://www.houstontx.gov/police/pip/
